Can I drive
I my check engine, vehicle dynamic control, and
cruise control light are on. I checked the fule cap
and it was loose. I retoghtened it, and the lights
are still on. I just want to make sure my vdc light
being on won't damage my transition with the
check engine light. I am driving an hour more to
get home. Please help, I just want to make sure it
will be ok till I get the car into the shop tomorrow.
Subaru's are very finicky about the engine management and transmission control, personally I would not drive it anymore than absolutely necessary, if it does go into low power mode you won't be able to go any faster than 25 to 30 MPH.
Have the trouble codes read and post them here, Clearly there are other codes than just a loose gas cap.
P0457 is a code for fuel EVAP gross leak, so if the light is still on and that was the only code it may need to be reset, someplace like autozone can do this, but watch the light closely, if it comes back on with the same code then you have further problems with the fuel EVAP system. Still does not explain the no cruse control, could be a speed sensor not sending a clear signal,I would still be careful about driving it until a live scanner can be hooked up and it check out throughout the system. HTH
Gas cap codes should clear themselves if the cap was the problem. The CC is Subaru's way of getting your attention when there are engine problems.
