Motor is not blown, but don't just replace the valve covers as the same thing will happen. It's a result of your timing chain hitting the covers. Possible causes are, the chain tensioner failed or a guide broke. Could be from a worn water pump or sludge or low oil. Was the car making noises before this happened? I would also check for bent valves.

If the valve covers were actually blown open you may have fuel leaking into the oil and any stray spark will ignite the gasses, I have seen engines blow the valve covers off and also the oil pans due to fuel in the oil, so if that is what has happened, drain the oil before attempting to work on it, find the true problem and fix it then change the filters and refill with oil.
