2001 Ford Taurus teansmission slipping
My daughters 2001 Taurus was working fine and the other day the battery light started coming on when the rpms go over 2000 and the transmission will not shift out of first. When pulled over stopped the battery light goes off. Could an electrical issue, such as a bad alternator or bad ground also cause the transmission issues we are having?
Possibly, since the battery light is on, that is one sign the alternator is bad. To confirm, start the car, and probe the battery posts, should be 14V, if lower around 12-13V, the alternator is not charging the battery. Then see if the trans shifting goes away.
Trans problem might be a separate issue, I'd check the fluid level first. Car warm, in park, level surface, in cross-hatched area.
