what do i look for when my truck boggs down and the back fires alot.
i have a 1998 gmc 1500 5.0 it wouldnt start one day so i changed all the plugs and now it runs in park a little rough. then when i drive it it boggs down and back fires alot. what am i looking for.
well if this was a California or smogger like that would suggest an EGR valve which can get clobbered with carbon...disassemble and clean it with brake cleaner and use a new gasket~ https://www.google.com/#q=1998+GMC+Sierra+C%2FK+1500+egr+gasket
the purpose of this device is to COOL the combustion temps during HARD acceleration (we don't want the motor to melt) and to reduce emissions by diverting the exhaust back into the intake....which we certainly aren't going to HELP performance by doin' this...also the egr valve has a diaphragm and a vacuum source...check both of these things too...while we're at it~
