Oil pump could be shot. How many miles are on it?

Not too many miles but if the oil hasn't been changed regularly it can happen. Is the oil clean? Does it smell like gas?

No the oil is dark and it does have a slight gas smell

I would have a REPUTABLE mechanic look at it. The Chevy 350 (I'm assuming) is very easy to work on. They should be able to put a new pump on it, fairly cheap if the engine is worth saving. Don't run the engine any more if you can help it.

Will do thank you very much for your help

No problem. Let me know how it goes.
