I have a 2001 v6, five speed. I was wondering what a good performance mod would be? I already have a short ram intake, dual exhaust, so the car is breathing the way it should. Any suggestions?

well how bonkers are you ready to go??? you could do a high performance head swap and throw in a set of bigger cams... you should up date the internals of the engine at the same time... then strap on a 2.2l ford racing supercharger or a turbo setup... note that you are going to have to make driveline modifications with greatly increaced horsepower... which may or may not include the tranny will include the driveshaft and will likely include the rear end...
It depends on how far you want to take your car, and how much time/money you are willing to put into it as well. Two fairly affordable mods would be changing your pulleys, and/or using a programmer and re-mapping your ecu. plus if you do decide to boost the car later, the programmer is still useful
I have plans to bore it out to a 4.2 and super charge it, but thats way in the future. I am looking for a fairly simple mod that can be installed for a reasonable amount of money, nothing to crazy for now. I will start doing the big stuff once i get another car, this one is still my daily driver
Alright dude, easy couple of things to do. One. T-lock and new gears. 3.73 gears will put you into your power band quickly but 4.10s will get you there faster but takes away from the daily driver of it. What exhaust did you put on? Was it 2.5 in pipes or 2.25? and what muffs did you put on it? because i might have an opportunity for you for a few more horsepower and a good amount of TQ.
i have PYPES brand true duals with an x pipe, it is a 2.5 to 3 inch tips
sounds a little high pitch and whiny above 3K? LOL. I have the same exhaust, BUT Flowmaster 40 series or Super 44's Fix that. Did you install that yourself or did you have a shop install it? If you installed it yourself, take it to a shop and have them adjust it and weld your connections together. Weld the Mufflers in, (Buy the flowmasters you won't be sorry!!should be roughly 65 bucks a piece.) and weld weld the X-pipe in. Only weld on the side where you used the clamps. I guarantee you have exhaust leaks.

i just welded mine in yesterday and installed the Flows. Sounds 100% better. Next to that, About the best upgrade you can do is to install a Windstar intake. Good for about 10-15HP stock and 25-30lbs of TQ. And the best thing is that that is where the car is bone stock. The more upgrades you have, the more you are going to gain from it. I can have one customized for you, just gotta let me know.
yea iv seen those windstar intakes nd i have been thinking about buyin one. the only thing is i have never seen it done b4 nd haven't heard much about it, i would hate to shell out almost 400 bucks nd not really see an improvement. i have checked out the website as well it looks like a pretty slick set up.

so does the whole thing have to be fabbed up or is it just all the connections for the vacuum hoses, cuz i have a windstar intake off of the van. but im guessin its the brackets nd all the relocating stuff that is what drives the price up right???
yeah man. the egr relocation valve. the new gaskets for the egr valve and the intake itself. vacuum lines, the extension wires for your connections. modifying the tb so it fits the intake itself. And other little stuff.
why don't you just sell the car and spend $3,000-$4,000 on a fox body 5.0 and use the extra money to beef it up? the 302 has so much potential and the car will probably still start out faster than your 6 is now. More parts available with more research and better results.
YES YES, thats what i hate about mustang owners, they think that the v8 are the only mustang. Just to prove a point my v6 will smoke a stock 5.0 nd will keep up with the gts of my era, so as much as i would love to own a gt just help me out by not pointing out the obvious. Ok guys. I started my mustang log affair with a 6. And I loved it. But as a stock car it was pretty slow. That being said I have seen 600 rwhp 6s. I don't think you cab get as much out of the 6 as the 8 without a swap. The 8 is just a stronger platform to start with. But. The 6 is a important piece in the mustang lineup. Mustang wouldn't exist today without it. As for the 89 fox. They don't care what you can do. And if you loose then your in for a lot of heckling. And I'm yet to see you talk any numbers. I have mine. 13.1@ 101 on drs @ 3600, 260rwhp 399rwftlbs tq. 96 gt cams intake exhaust chip tune 40#w fuel support... So bc you aren't gonna see these ppl 4 real what are your specs.

Hey Josh i hope you didnt take my posts the wrong way... i think the V6 has potential and if your willing to put the money and time into it it can be a fast car... it doesnt matter what the GT guys say... but for the same money and the same time you will get more out of a V8 and the parts and options have a little more scope and options... I do know V6 mustangs that are a hell of a lot faster then 90% of the GT mustangs out there... its not too difficult to get 400hp out of the 6... but it involves more work... The entire driveline needs to be modified or replaced, the engine internals need to be updated and replaced... your going to have to go FI for sure and you will run into your potential wall before the GT does... as a stock stock race its not a comparisin... so the best thing i can say for you to do is get your car to the point where you can run a bit faster than the GT models (new ones) and then just enjoy the cred from there... but honestly if your looking to make a big build you are better off to go to the GT or swap in a different engine... which will more than likely be a V8 anyways...
no man i actually liked your post you stuck up for the v6, nd your right there are a lot more things you can do to get big power out of an 8 than a 6 nd i know that. the thing is that i dont have an 8 so im just seein what i can do to make my 6 run faster. im not looking to get huge amounts of horsepower.....yet this is just my daily driver for now. Oh by the way i also have plans to get the 5.4 cobra motor out of a 2008 cobra nd drop that in, yes i know the project that lies ahead of me with that but i guess that the v8 guys could stop worrying about getting smoked by a 6 lol
i know youre saying you have plans for the cobra engine from an 08 and putting that in your current car but just a thought to run by you. have you thought about possibly guying a 2003 svt cobra instead of the 08 engine and doing the swap? im not amustang guy at all but im assuming that by going the 2003 svt cobra route would give you a better suspension and tranmission than your current car. i have done engine swaps before and i realized after doing so it was much more costly than i expected. i mean you have a car built for a v6 right now and by putting that heavy v8 in the current suspension and transmission probably wont be able to harness that power and the engine would be a waste then.
when i say that i was going to put the motor from an 08 i meant the whole package, im not going to half ass it nd just do the motor.Its going to be everything, a complete build that is going to take a couple of years. I like the idea of a swap with an 03 but if i was going do that i would just buy the 03. Im looking for somthing that you wouldnt see coming in the review until it screams by you at 170 lol but like i said the car is still my daily driver so nothing to that extent is going to happen for a couple of years.
i meant buy an 03 not swap with it. but if you want something that fast i suggest an import or crotch rocket. a mustang would be better suited for a quarter mile run

i was referring to something along the lines of an rx7, supra, sti, 350z, or evo. rocket would be your best bet if you want to go fast. if you want to accelerate really quick build your mustang

haha i understand. im a camaro/gto guy. had the camaro then got a rocket so no need for the fast car so i got a navigator and then just traded that in on my 300C. but the 345 hp hemi isnt exactly slow haha.

dodge/chrysler stepped their game up haha. if they didnt i wouldnt have bought the 300C. im not sure what the mustang gt runs in the quarter but the hemi puts the 300 at roughly 14 seconds. not bad for a 4100 pound car haha.

hey josh im gonna save you a lot of pain here... the 5.4 wont go under your hood... not without major mount fabrication... its a huge difficult swap and honestly the 4.6 cobra engines are fantastic... the GT runs a 13.6 to 13.4 stock... with suspension tune, DRs, intake, exhaust, gears, pulleys, chip, tune, it will break into 12s...
yeah with a professional driver handling that manual it runs those times stock. Put the normal non pro street driver and it runs about even with the 300C.
im not a pro driver and neither is my buddy... we run very similar times and he just has a set of BFG KDW summer radials on his 06GT... i think his only other mod is a cold air intake... so really were splitting nails... we both run mid to low 13s... its a pretty good race...
ok if u put money and time in any car you can make it fast hes talkin bout somethin cheap he can do to it sorry for bein an asshole bout the v6 its actually smart cuz of gas prices and with some money you can make it as fast as a gt but if u look up the facts the gt only gets 2-3 miles to gallon less then the v6 with alot more power and and dont go fuel injected dual 4-barrel carbs is the way to go if you want power not reliability at all and if ur gettin 400 horses out of a v6 youve done spent more money then you would of buyin a gt
I was amused to find someone at the Autorama in Dallas two weeks ago with a dual supercharged V6! You could probably wring out some serious power, and the bottom end is relatively strong on them....
not saying you arent telling the truth but with a stock gt i highly doubt you are running low 13s. probably more like mid to high 13s. i would need to see an official drag sheet saying low 13s to believe it. a stopwatch on the streets doesnt cut it for me
i never said i was driving completley stock GTs if you check the posts youl see i listed mods as best i could... im cammed chipped tuned, intake exhaust fuel support and a couple other goodies on DRs which make a difference... ill try find my slips from last year but i dont know where they are anymore ... but ill get a fresh set here come spring... ill look for the others

U got ripped off. First of all if u dont weld that "bolt on" on it rattles alot. And it doesn line up right on the back end unless u further mod it. Take it off, hope u find someone uneducated on ebay who will give u most of ur money bwck, and get flowmaster x pipe catted duals.
