Could be caused by the throttle body clogged with carbon, a defect in the mass air flow sensor, or an O2 sensor. Might be the idle speed controller, a clogged EGR valve, or a vacuum leak. Might be faulty ignition causing misfires and hesitation. If you have any warning lights take car to an auto shop and have codes read, probably free, so you'll know what areas your problems are in. Then have a mechanic check it out.
