belt is ok
tried to turn it using spanner, but bottom crank turn but not top
Timing belt issue. That is if you say you can turn the harmonic balancer with wrench and the cams on the top are not turning.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgg0bBavpK8 -- check this out (other video was a 2.0. This is the 1.6) so I know we are talking about the same thing. The only thing that ties the harmonic balancer to the cams is the timing belt. So if you can turn the harmonic balancer and the cams don't move then you have some sort of timing belt issue. It's either loose, broke, timing belt tensioner or idler pulley issue.
ok thanks.checked belt seemed ok.no teeth missing.belt was on right tension.if not belt, what else would stop cams from turning?thanks for reply.
having read your answer, you cover it.so will get new belt and tensioner ans see.thanks again.
