99 Plymouth voyager I don't know what's wrong.

Asked by Mar 01, 2017 at 09:31 PM about the 1999 Chrysler Voyager

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I I just bought an 99 Plymouth Voyager 13000 from
a lady and she said that there was a valve cover
gasket that needed to be replaced I had a slow
leak and used about 1/4 to 1/2 of oil a quart week.
Today there was white smoke that came out we
lost some power put more gas in it in about 3
miles down the road lost more power and parked it
on the side of the road. I don't know what it is I'm a
single mom and don't have a lot of money or time
to be with out a vehicle.

If it was white smoke out the tail pipe that is not a good sign, usually means a blown headgasket. If it was white smoke from the engine compartment, it can mean the oil leak got really bad and has leaked all over the exhaust manifolds and is fouling the fresh air intake, or there was a major short and it was wiring that was burning. Was the coolant and oil levels full before this happened and what are they now? Is the engine oil milky color or is there oil in the coolant?
