Rear doors will not open

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a stock 63 Monterey that had a bad trunk seal, opened the trunk
and condensation was everywhere.  No visible rust and not sure if it is related
to the two rear doors will not open.  The seller said they opened last summer
but now they will not.  Not sure where to start, help? Thanks.

You'll need to remove the interior door panels and inspect the rods that go from the interior door handle, exterior door handle, and lock button to the latch assembly. They may be disconnected or the latches themselves may be rusted and jammed. Hope that helps! Jim

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll have the car on Saturday and will take a look.

Most likely one or all the 4 coil springs are broken on the door lock/latch. Springs are htf I looked for months bought some for a 50s chevy truck , not right ones but with some filing grinding tapping. One set worked. Did buy some nice ones out of a salvage yard I was turned into from someone on a Monterey fourm. Good luck
