How does it reset correctly?

If you were in an impact the fuel pump circuit has a shut off to prevent a fire, look in your owners manual for the location of the reset switch / button.

Sometimes they get weak and will trip for no apparent reason and there have been some problems with the connector, but for the most part they either work or they don't. So if you hear it click when you push it in after it has tripped it's connected.

tennisshoes what if you dont hear or feel the click when pushing it? I have a 2004 expedition and turned off while driving and after few minutes turn back on but after 2 days cranks but dont start. Replace cam sensor, crank sensor, oil pressure sensor, fuel filter and still cant hear the fuel pump activate.

If it won't latch the it needs replaced, rare but not unheard of, I would run a voltage check through the switch first to conform it is bad, if no voltage in or out then you have a problem further up the power line, broken wire, bad relay or fuse, have even seen a bad ignition switch cause a loss of power to the fuel pump circuit. You will need a test light and a voltmeter.
