my 1989 Mark 7 LSC shifts hard into overdrive unless I have my foot into it and accelorating fast?

Check the TV cable, it might be out of adjustment. Sometimes the plastic grommet that holds the cable to to the throttle body plate cracks and falls out. You can find one of those in a grommet Dorman pack at any Autozone. Here is a link to help. http://www.txchange.com/aodadj.htm and a fluid/filter change can't hurt either.
