'86 cj7 258 missing cutting out loud back fire type noise just started doing this

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Any suggestions as what to check first,  would bad
distributor cap or plug or plug wire make it have
started doing this. It has been running okay till this
happened monday when got off work.

Yes all the things you just mentioned could cause your problem but should start with a tune up. Check air filter and replace if necessary replace fuel filter if have done so in a while.
