how to check transmission fluid

Asked by Apr 02, 2014 at 06:59 PM about the 1984 Jeep CJ7

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1 Answer

With your Jeep at operating temperature run the selector through all the gears. Park, reverse, etc., pausing at each gear. Then, with the engine idling, pull the dipstick, wipe it off and reinsert it. Pull the dipstick again and check the level. It should be at the full hot mark. If it's low, add 1/2 a quart at a time to bring the level up to the full hot mark. HTH. -Jim
