How to remove original antenna from a 1974 Karman Ghia

Actually, ALL you do is loosen the nut on the antenna itself and the antenna will come out. Hold onto it so it does not fall down into the abyssal tavern down there...

Sorry, but unless "someone" installed mine incorrectly, that's not true. Something at the base of the antenna will not allow it to be removed.
