i have a 1994 honda civic ex coupe there is some type of oil all over the top of the transmission wondering where it could be coming from looks like maybe the valve cover seal is bad but want to know for sure.
A valve cover gasket would be easy to fix- easier than a rear mainseal- take the car to the carwash and spray it off- put a plastic bag over the distributor and fuel injection electronics- do not get electronics wet! but since you are spraying off the tranny you should be able to keep the water localized- then for the next few days check the engine and see where that oil is coming from
i also have another issue when i let my car sit over night and go to start it in the morning my rpm's sit above 2000 for about 2-3 mins then decrease, but after it decreases the needle jumps between 1000-2000 a couple times then the cel comes on right after, i asked one one my co-workers about it and they said it could be a vaccum leak or something to do with my radiator.
if its red its tranny fluid, black oil they smell different pull the dip sticks and smell i agree with jamnblues it's prob. valve covers but wouldn't waste the time washing it
