'95 Cadillac Deville

Asked by Mar 13, 2017 at 02:15 PM about the 1995 Cadillac DeVille

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a '95 Cadillac Deville. Runs excellent, but it'll
pass smog but the engine light won't shut off.
I've had it scanned and they can't figure it out
either.
My thought is, since it's a really old car and
everthing is up to code. Could it be that the
warning lights need to be reset?

What codes show when you do a scan?

I've heard the mechanic can get an exemption from the king when there's a problem like that , I'm in N.Y.

Your Cadillac is OBD I. To get the trouble codes for the check engine light, turn on the ignition but don't try to start the engine. Turn off the Electronic Climate Control System. Now, press and hold both the "off" and "warmer" buttons on the Electronic Climate Control Panel at the same time. In a few seconds any trouble codes stored will show up on the Climate Control's digital temperature display. Once the codes start showing up you can let go of the two buttons. HTH. -Jim
