It may be electronic. The computer is getting signals but putting out the wrong commands. Have the codes checked and test the computer.

i have the same problem, the checkEngine light turns on and the car may or may not run properly, sometimes pushing on the accelerator but no power ! can the problem be a temperature problem ? (water pressure ? or sort of ? ) please @califcarson can you explain more about "electronic problem" ? PS: i got the car checked by a scanner but no problem detected.

Really folks, I'm at a loss when it come to the modern day electronics that run the cars now. The cars run on sensors that feed into a central main computer what digests input and determines output. If inputs are wrong, it can and does shut down the engine to protect it. The scanners have been known to be the weak link to all this, and a majority of the time that is the fix. A complete diagnosis on a extremely expensive scanner is necessary to find most problems. The oil pressure sensor is one major issue connecting to the pressure gauge. Another is the water temp sensor, and if these send incorrect readings to the master / main computer, the car will shut down. Sometimes all it takes is to refresh the computer so it will run correctly. The smog sensors at or near the cats also affect the running of the engine. Unless you are very well off, you can't afford the computer scanner to use. Then again if you can afford the scanner computer, you can afford the trip to the garage to run the tests. Frustration is the word that needs to be used here. This is not helping with your issue, just an explanation of what may need to be done.
