Trying to get 1983 f100 running (351 cleveland) just clicks when trying to start? Do I need to replace starter?
Probably the starter but check the battery, battery ground cables. Leads to the starter and ground straps.
i had it all connected up to a battery and also jumper leads to another car.. lights and horn working fine.. just got click click click... gave the starter a few light taps but did not help. will try turning engine over by hand tonight and also will remove starter and inspect. :)
Ok. Good. Let me know.
Yes all mentioned above are true. I had a starter issue like are you having ....true symptoms of a bad starter will be clicking and once you tap it ..it will work Reason being the mechanism which throughs out the little starter gear will get stuck inside the starter because it's either worn out or malfunctioning . I believe it's called solenoid could which gives it power to kick out that gear to spin the flywheel
