Ford f100 1981
I have a 81 ford f100 with straight six in it
what v8 with 4x4 will fit. it does not
currently have 4x4 but I want it too
unless there is a reason to use THIS car...I'd recommend shopping for what you want...it'd take at least TWO mechanics and there are so many issues with doing something like that~...I recommend you simply find a good low-mileage one...all the time would like my 59 pontiac back again (wrecked in 1985) but a common easily replaced vehicle is the way to go...for example have a 2006 MINI...and they made so many of these...a cinch to find another~ if wrenchin' is your hobby there are clubs for your car...if you look~
Fortunately for you this was just before computer controls so you can put any carburated Ford motor in there, as far as trannys were you thinking about standard or automatics? If it already has a standard that helps. The transfer case should be a manual selector only, none of the newer electronics. A donor vehicle would be a good idea just to help fill in some of those things you will run across like drive lines, mounts, etc. Good luck with your project.
got a 66 Chevy pickup...put it through the paces...then a rod bearing went and punched through the pan...got a "rebuilt" Impala 400, and was crazy, because the gas tank was sized for the 6 cylinder, the steering was difficult to turn because there was NO power steering suspension was unhappy with a V8 instead of the 230 6 cylinder...overall had to get rid of this after painting and replacing nearly everything...so point is, when you get what you want...is laden with complications~
