Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Looking to purchase a 65 Olds 442.  This vehicle is stock, coupe, auto . Buyer
stated that the right quarter had been replaced along with a portion of the floor
pan. Very concerned about cloning. This car appears very clean, straight body,
and great interior. If the deal works out, plan to install a 4 speed.

Run the VIN to check originality.

Definitely follow FORs advice. The VIN in "65 identifies model, body type and engine/transmission. If it comes back as anything but a 442 package, its not authentic. Just google VIN decoders and enter the number (numbers & letters). If it is authentic and exists in original form with an automatic, it would be unwise to convert to a 4-speed. You probably won't find authentic parts and think what the next buyer would think when he read the VIN is an automatic and the car has a stick. Besides, the conversion from original will reduce the value by quite a lot.
