Do I turn the fast idle adjustment screw right or left to turn it up?
Car shuts off after lifting foot off gas for 20 seconds(this makes stopping a
nightmare) That's the screw in the photo.
The fast idle screw should be turned clockwise to increase the idle speed. However, this adjustment is for when the engine is cold and the choke is closed only! The curb idle speed is adjusted where the throttle lever contacts the stop acres on the other side of the carburetor. This should be set with the transmission in drive, and the parking brake on. Usually 650 RPMs is standard. Some Ford Products of that era need to have the air conditioning and high beam headlights on to properly set the curb idle speed. HTH. -Jim
