Clutch pedal sticking???
The clutch pedal does not return on my '60 wagon.
I haven't really investigated the problem yet but thought I would start here.
The return spring is there.....maybe stretched out.
Someone told me there is a grease fitting somewhere also.
If so I'm sure it hasn't been greased since the '60s.
Any ideas before I get started?
The only grease fitting I can remember was a few of those had a zerk right on the throwout bearing, you could access by removing the flywheel cover. Make sure all the linkage is well lubed especiall the clutch tree bushings up under the dash. However most sticking problems were related to either the pressure plate or worn clutch splines hanging up on the input shaft of the tranny. On a vehicle that old anything ca be worn out.
Tx man! I'll check it out during the week. If it's anything more serious then a little lube job I guess she's going into the shop. Seems unusual though for anything to wear out after only 45k miles doesn't it? Tx again!
It's not the mileage but the age, plastic bushings will deteriorate over time even if they just sit, moisture still gets into stuff unless you live where there is no rainfall. Hope it is just a lube thing.

Grease fitting or zerk.
A zerk is a grease fitting. Look it up on the web to know what they look like. The pivot for the clutch linkage might also have a grease fitting.
Found a lube fitting..... .at bottom on equalizer bar. Would that be a regular grease fitting
Your car will have a lot of zerks. You should be greasing your suspension and the U joints.
Looks like this except you don't see the threads and it is covered in dirt and grease.
Never heard the term zerk.......I know grease fittings though!
Lubrication fitting on your diagram.
I might remove the equalizer bar and clean out all the old, dirty and hardened grease out before lubing it.
At least now I have a place to start. I'm really not enthused about the idea of going into the clutch.
Cleaning out the Eq. bar sounds great but as per the diagram I'm sure I'll foul up something. Maybe not. The only real work I have done personally is put in a master cylinder , starter, fuel pump and change the brake pads........basically all bolt on stuff. I don't have enough knowledge or experience to properly reassemble and then make the proper adjustments afterwards. Kind like why I don't do my own dental work.
Will a spray lube...WD40.....be good for bushings, springs etc?
WD40 is a short term fix and will lose its lubricating ability in a very short time. You need to use oil or grease. A drop or two of engine oil on most points will do the trick. If there is a grease fitting use an all purpose grease.
See those little plastic bushings in the diagram? Those are what you have to watch when they get this old they may just fall apart when you take out the bar assembly. Personally I would load it full of new grease and order some new bushings before I disassemble it. Might be a good idea to see if you can get the whole set of bushings, even for the pedal tree.
As this particular part is exposed to everyday moisture and road grime and is only sealed by a felt washer I would use a waterproof grease like Lucas Red and Tacky.

I just don't want to make a bad situation worse.
Yesterday, with the help of my 14yr old son, we located the zerk on the equalizer bar, greased it pressed clutch pedal several times.......still sticking! Then I sprayed WD40 on everything clutch related from under the hood figuring that might get it goi g a bit. No good.......pedal still not returning. So I decide to drive the front end up on tire ramps so I can get better access underneath. Ramps just kept sliding forward so decided to just back up into garage again. That's when I found out she wont go into reverse! Or any other gear! The clutch is stuck in first! The clutch arm is in the neutral position but the car is stuck in first!!! WTF!!!!!! I didn't touch anything in the linkage or anywhere else. Just greased equalizer bar and sprayed WD! I'm lost!! Hahaha.........very frustrating to say the least!!
So will the transmission come out of gear if it’s just sitting without the engine running so it can be pushed? If not then you have a tranny problem, if it will then you could have stuck clutch disc or the release bearing is totally shot, either way the tranny will have to be removed to either be repaired or the clutch kit replaced and the flywheel machined.
The clutch does not come out of gear. I had my son press the clutch pedal so I could push it back into the garage. There's nothing I can do at this point but send her to the shop and hope for the best. Thanks for your help and I'll keep ya posted.
