I recently performed a transmission swap for my
360 wedge 1974 plymouth duster. Went from a
727 to an a833 4 speed. The torque converter had
small weights and so I thought I should get
weights on my flywheel. I got a 340 flywheel and
welded weights to it and balanced it to a 360
crank. I put everything together and started it.
Vibrated horribly bad. After looking closer, I found
that the harmonic balancer had some weight taken
out of the top, the place opposite of where we
welded the weights. So my conclusion is that with
the weight on the Harmonic balancer and the
weight on the flywheel, we have 2 sets of weights
when we only need one. My question is, is it
possible to just install a neutrally balanced
harmonic balancer? Should I get a new flywheel?
I've looked around and found a neutrally balanced
harmonic balancer, however, I asked a machinest
friend and he said it wouldn't work. Any help or
advice would be much, much appreciated.
put a new 360 SFI APPROVED BALANCER (fluid dampener) and a SFI APPROVED FLYWHEEL IN IT...you should have them anyway...
You don't need a new balancer have you 4spd flywheel balanced don't waste money on the harmonica balancer if the car didn't have vibrations from the motor when you have the automatic transmission more than likely it'll be the flywheel needs to be rebalanced always use an internal balance
