Transmission problem?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer with an automatic transmission. It started
acting up not too long ago where if I put it in drive it wouldn't change gears.
I would have to push the gas and rev it up to 3000 rpm for it to change
gears. Today it stopped working. I put it in drive and it wouldn't move, and
put it in reverse and it wouldn't move. If I rev it up it will rev but nothing will
happen. The rear differential was replaced last month and the transmission
started acting up about three weeks ago. What could the problem be and
how would I fix it? If it is the transmission would it need to be replaced?

Put butter on it because it is toast! Check the transmission fluid level but it is pretty obvious that your transmission is gone.

i don't have much money to work with, is there a way i can fix it myself?

You do not want to rebuild the transmission yourself. You can change the fluid and filter yourself.

When you change the fluid you can try adding some Lucas Transmission fix as a last ditch effort to get a few more miles out of your trans.
