Rapid fall of fuel gauge after fill up

Asked by Dec 31, 2017 at 05:53 PM about the 2004 Ford Escape

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just filled my '04 ford escape up and within 4.4
miles the gauge dropped to 3/4 of a tank. Check
engine light is on,#1 cylinder show misfires.
Would this cause this problem?

A heavy float on the sending unit which is with the fuel pump or a weak ground to the sending unit

A large gas leak would do it but I assume you would have noticed that.
