Dropping down an octane or 2 will be a problem with spark detonation. This could cause holes in your Pistons. This detonation is also called spark knock. 93-92 octane to 89 is OK, with no modifications. but no lower to 83-84. Premium gas cars have higher compression ratios. Changing Pistons to run a lower octane gas is expensive & an a engine rebuild!
