Does anybody know what years transmissions will interchange with a 1989 Pontiac Grand AM?

I am trying to find out if any other year(s) of transmissions will interchange with a 1989
Pontiac Grand AM 2.5lt engine. Having one given to me.  It will go into drive (forward) just
wont go in reverse.  Thanks in advance.  Wondering if it is worth it to fix it?
