why won't my 1985 gmc 1500 have a spark

Could be a bad ignition coil, bad ignition switch, bad ignition module, faulty wiring at the starter, bad distributor cap and rotor, bad coil wire (from coil to cap), broken timing chain (if rotor doesn't turn while cranking engine), or a burned out resistor wire from the ignition switch to the coil.
