Alternator and battery was replaced after draining the battery. The engine
light came on about 2 hours later

The engine light is indicating that something with the engine is in need of attention. Go to an auto parts store to have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes and write them down for further assistance. The trouble codes will tell you what is going on, and what to look at for repair.
