Sounds like the temp. control, I believe it is in the heater hose, and I believe it works on vacuum, either the valve is stuck, or it is not getting the proper vacuum. But just so you know, I am a Chevy guy and have not have had my head under a Fords hood in a long time.

The 2005 ford taurus does not have a heater valve,it will be the blend door actuator if your heater core hose,s under hood going into firewall are warm.
