need help.. I think my chassis is broken

I have just acquired a Vauxall Vectra 1.8 LS 2003. I keep hering noises from the trunk.. today I had a look underneath my car and I found this (see attached photo)
Is at the back of the car.

Is this my chassis nearly broken? any info will be appreciated
