my 1987 el camino 350 3 speed auto shifts fine to 2nd gear but i have to do 55mph to shift into 3rd? can i adjust it?

First check the vacuum line going to the vacuum modulator on the transmission. Be sure it's not damaged. It should be connected to intake manifold vacuum. If you have a turbo-hydramatic 350 check the kick down cable for proper adjustment. If a turbo-hydramatic 400 check the kick down switch for proper adjustment and operation. Inspect the wiring and electrical connections as well. HTH. -Jim
