Fuel Economy/mile ?????
I am researching theEl Camino as a daily driver and its fuel economy. I have been told several things. A dealer states a V 6 should get 20 to 24 mpg. My brother who has a 302 says he gets about 18 mpg. I am not looking for a muscle car just a cool ride with some economy since i drive 80 miles a day. If you know the different fuel consumptions by engine size & type that would be great.
first the El Camino came with a 305 not 302,which is a ford motor.milage on it would be around 12 city,18 highway,A V6 would be about the same, smaller motor pulling more weight.
actually Chevy made a 302 as well (although there weren't too many of them), it was a real rompin' stompin' sum'bitch
OK here another question. I looked up fuel economy on the EPA site and for a 351 w auto tranny they post a highway mileage rate of over 26 mpg then the 30X drops to about 18. Is this a typo? Does the 351 really get better economy becuase you have a bigger engine hauling the same weight as the 305? I don't intend to hot rod it up just find a stock machine. Thanks
A 351 W is a ford engine, do you mean you are looking at a Ranchero not an El Camino. Either way, you will not get 26 mpg from it, it was probably a typo.
I ve never got more than 19 mpg out of a 351W.like said which one are you wanting.
Actually I went back to the EPA site and reviewed the data. I miss read the 1984 5.8L engine as a gas with 26 mpg. It actually was a diesel engine. I understand the desiel engine were 1) rare 2) weren't reliable. 3) expensive to repair. the 5.7 GAS engine had about 18 mpg
