Sometimes a VIN decoding will tell you if someone hasn't changed it out. there were 3 V8's that were used back then, the 305, the 350, and the 454, the 350 was the most liked of the 3. All of them had a 4 BBL carb.

Yes,. It should be easily identified under the hood. Might be harder to tell the difference between the 305 from the 350, but, the 454 BIG block should be obvious. Yes,. VIN number is BG best. In any case, these are all gas guzzling motors.

The only gas guzzler was the 454, the other 2 got decent mileage, an old friend had an El Camino with a 350 and on the highway it was verified to get 21 MPG back in the double nickle days.
