why does the power steering go out?

I have a 1971 el camino and when im on the freeway going over 50 mph and i
break quickly my power steering goes out.  I pull over and it fires right up again
like nothings wrong.  Why does it do this?

Add some Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak it not only stops leaks but also corrects rack and pinion problems.

There weren't very many ElCaminos with Hydroboost brakes, that means the braking system used the power steering pump to boost the master cylinder instead of the vacuum unit on the master cylinder, so I need to know if you have that system or the regular mastervac system. See pic of hydroboost system.
