2022 Kia Soul Overview

The Kia Soul provides form and function that can coexist in one funky-yet-functional compact hatchback/crossover. The boxy design ensures it is an attention-getter, and yet it still has solid cargo space and a commanding driving position.

Trims are LX, S, X-Line, GT-Line, EX, and Turbo. All trims feature 62.1 cubic feet of cargo space, which is generous for the class. The LX comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote keyless entry, and a 60/40 split-fold rear seat.

For 2022, the S, X-Line, and GT-Line receive dual USB chargers, wireless device charging, dual-zone climate control, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. The EX features a power sunroof, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The range-topping Turbo features synthetic leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and a head-up display.

Most trims get the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. For 2022, the manual transmission has been dropped, leaving the continuously variable transmission (CVT) as the only option for this engine. As the name suggests, the Turbo receives a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. It routes power through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. All Soul models are front-wheel drive (FWD).

An Eco Dynamics version of the 2.0-liter powertrain is also available. It returns fuel economy of 29 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined. All other versions of the 2.0-liter engine return 28 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. The Soul Turbo is rated at 27 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined.

Standard safety features on the 2022 Soul include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, driver-attention warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Turbo comes standard with pedestrian detection as well.

Base MSRP for the 2022 Kia Soul is $19,190 for the LX trim. The S trim starts at $21,490 and the X-Line starts at $22,590. The GT-Line starts at $22,590 and the EX trim starts at $23,490. The range-topping Turbo 1.6T starts at $22,790.
