2021 Mitsubishi Mirage Overview

Mitsubishi, like nearly all automakers, has moved toward a crossover-heavy vehicle lineup in recent years. Unlike other companies, however, Mitsubishi has a few cars left in its stable and has just updated one for the new model year.

The Mirage got a redesign for the 2021 model year, which brings new front and rear styling with Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” grille design. The massaged bumper adds what the automaker says is a sporting touch to what would otherwise be a straightforward economy vehicle. The new look also moves the Mirage closer to the Mitsubishi crossover lineup.

Out back, both the Mirage hatchback and the Mirage G4 sedan get a wide bumper and standard L-shaped LED taillights that stretch side-to-side. The enlarged rear bumper and valance further bolster the youthful, sporty look. Two new colors are also available for the Mirage lineup for 2021: White Diamond and Sand Yellow. The new Carbonite Edition trim gets an exclusive front grille and air dam, side air dam, b-pillar decal, and rear air-dam.

Inside, the Mirage now gets a 7-inch touchscreen as standard equipment, which runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. That screen joins a new soft-touch cloth upholstery in the ES trim for the new model year, along with new front armrests and carbon fiber accents throughout the cabin.

No matter the trim, the Mirage gets a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque. That tiny block is connected to either a five-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT) and sends power to the Mirage’s front wheels. Though light on power, the engine delivers stellar fuel economy, at 36/43/39 mpg city/highway/combined.

Every Mirage also gets Mitsubishi’s long powertrain warranty. Coverage stretches for 10 years or 100,000 miles and is accompanied by a five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty and a seven-year/100,000-mile corrosion warranty. Five years of roadside assistance is also standard for all Mirage models.

Budget-friendly pricing is the name of the game with the Mirage, which is on sale now. The base ES trim starts at $15,290 after a $995 destination charge. Stepping up to a CVT transmission bumps the price by $1,300. The range-topping Mirage SE starts at $18,440.
