2021 Lexus LC Overview

In 2018, Lexus debuted its LC range of grand-touring coupes, which stand out as the pinnacle of the brand’s luxury and sporting prowess. For 2021, the LC 500 Convertible joins the lineup, offering all the same attributes in a drop-top package.

The LC 500 Convertible matches the coupe's daring design. Below the windshield, you’ll find the same sleek body, hourglass mesh grille, dramatic clear-lens lights, and flush door handles as the coupe. The top itself is a piece to behold, a 4-layer fabric assembly that stows and raises in about 16 seconds, at speeds up to 31 mph. Lexus lets you select either black or beige for the top, depending upon the paint color.

Lexus paid plenty of attention to the LC 500 Convertible’s interior, too. The Lexus Climate Concierge automatically tunes the air conditioner, seat heaters, neck heaters, and steering-wheel heaters to keep the cabin at your preferred temperature, even if it’s at odds with the outside environment. Active noise control and an available windscreen keep you and your passengers comfortable. The LC Convertible does include a pair of rear seats, but they are best for short trips or children.

The LC 500's powertrain comprises a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that makes a potent 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. It drives solely the rear wheels, courtesy of a direct-shift 10-speed automatic transmission. The LC 500 Convertible gets unique hardware that pipes more of the V8’s throaty roar into the cabin for plenty of auditory drama.

Lexus gives the LC 500 plenty of technology. It starts with a 10.3-inch high-definition infotainment system, featuring both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Amazon Alexa integration gives you instant control of home automation devices and Amazon account commands. Finally, the Lexus Enform telematics system lets you access the LC 500 from your smartphone, smartwatch, or Google-enabled or Alexa-enabled device.

As far as safety goes, the LC 500 gets the benefit of the Lexus Safety System+ as standard equipment. It bundles forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, lane-keeping assist, full-speed adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and roll bars are also included. No variant of the LC series has been evaluated by any external agency, but that’s normal for vehicles in this price class.

Lexus plans to release the all-new 2021 LC 500 Convertible in the 2020 calendar year. Kicking off the series will be an Inspiration Series. Limited to 100 units, this special-edition version comes with Structural Blue paint, semi-aniline white leather upholstery, a unique blue top, gray exterior details, and chrome-and-black 21-inch wheels.
