2019 BMW 4 Series Overview

The BMW 4 Series is a compact luxury model that includes coupe, 4-door coupe (Gran Coupe), and hardtop convertible versions. As the current 4 Series is on its way out, there are no updates of note for 2019.

BMW offers just two trims across all three body styles. At the entry level, there’s the 430i, which offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. By default, it sends power to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic, though xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD) is available. With the 430i, you’ll hit 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds. The EPA estimates the 430i will return 24 mpg city, 34 highway, and 27 combined.

Above that sits the 440i, which employs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder, capable of 320 hp and 330 lb-ft. Like the 430i, it comes with an 8-speed automatic and standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) or optional xDrive. The 440i gets you to 60 mph in as few as 4.6 seconds with xDrive.

Standard features across the 4 Series range include LED headlights and fog lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, 18-inch wheels, 10-way power front seats, leatherette upholstery, a 205-watt sound system, keyless start, an 8.8-inch infotainment system, navigation, a 1-year Apple CarPlay trial, a garage-door opener, and memory settings. You can then choose options like heated front seats, adaptive LED headlights, and premium seats.

As far as safety, the 4 Series gets rain-sensing windshield wipers, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera. Available features consist of forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, a surround-view camera, and a head-up display (HUD). The 4 Series has not been evaluated for safety by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The BMW 4 Series, in all its body styles, is a blend of performance and personal luxury.
