This car in the AMG version is way too much fun to drive! Mercedes calls it an SUV - It is a very small SUV. But still has good room for 4 people.

The best thing about this car is it’s looks, particularly the awesome black rims and red brake calipers. It also has great power at 375 hp and cool red seat belts. But there are tons of problems elsewhere. So much so that I tried to return the car to the dealer and keep my Golf R (but I had put too many miles on the car to do so). Here is my list of key complaints: a gas pedal that’s hard to use - I try to press smoothly and it often jerks when starting to move (and this is from a parked position like my driveway - not trying to take off fast), air conditioner / fan controls that are positioned way too low and are outright dangerous to try to work when driving at highway speeds, an iPad-looking screen WITHOUT A TOUCH SCREEN. Who has to use a knob to work a screen in 2018???, blind spot monitors that don’t alert soon enough, seat controls on the door that are awkward to use, turbo lag, a ridiculous default to comfort mode where the engine shuts off when you stop at a redlight or in traffic - this is an AMG people!!! Do they really think a person buying high performance wants this feature?? No! I want the engine revving and making that loud exhaust noise full time!, and last, the car does not trust that you know what you’re doing and will slam on the brakes for you - very awkward when you’re just making a turn and it deems you’re too close to the person in front of you. And, it’s also dangerous for the poor guy behind you if he or she is following closely. Aside from more comfortable seats and a more powerful engine (okay, and the badass look), I would take my 2016 Golf R manual transmission back over this car any day

Looks/Style Ranked 2018 Volkswagen Golf R 4-Door AWD worse.
"The Mercedes has 20” rims and the car is slightly bigger. The accent trim is more sporty than the R. The Mercedes emblem lights up at night which is cool"
Would Buy Ranked 2018 Volkswagen Golf R 4-Door AWD better.
"The Golf R can be bought in a manual transmission which is still the most fun to drive. There’s no interaction in driving a car (with a lot of horsepower) if all you do is press the gas. And paddle shifters don’t count - they’re a disappointing replacement option. "
