2017 Lexus GS 200t Overview

The Lexus GS Turbo, formerly the GS 200t, debuted for 2016, so doesn’t sport any major changes for 2017. Aside from the Nebula Gray Pearl paint color being replaced by the new Smokey Granite Mica, the only big news is that the Lexus Safety System+ is now standard equipment across the GS lineup (which also includes the hybrid GS 450h and the performance-focused GS 350).

The GS Turbo is the base of the GS family and comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine capable of 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. That I4 is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and can reach 60 mph in 7 seconds. The GS Turbo can be further controlled via the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes, which allow the driver to take full advantage of the car’s performance capabilities or focus on fuel economy.

The GS Turbo’s exterior features Lexus’ signature wide spindle grille and low, aggressive stance. This is a luxury car, but it’s a sporty one, with looks to match its drive. The F Sport trim takes it one step further with a unique grille, a rear valance, a spoiler, and 19-inch wheels with staggered-width tires. F Sport performance and suspension upgrades include an additional Sport Plus (S+) driving mode, an adaptive variable suspension tuned by the LFA supercar team that adjusts the shock absorbers, variable gear-ratio steering that controls front-wheel steering angles and response, and 14-inch 2-piece front-brake rotors with 4-piston calipers that keep brakes cool and reduce brake fade.

The GS Turbo also boasts interior luxuries like 10-way power seats, heated mirrors, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and a universal garage-door opener. The standard infotainment system comes with 12 speakers, HD Radio, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth, and USB and Aux input jacks. An optional Navigation package adds a 12.3-inch display screen, the Lexus Enform App Suite, and Lexus Enform Destinations, and an 835-watt Mark Levinson premium Surround Sound audio system with 17 speakers is also available. Select the Premium package for heated and ventilated seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a power rear sunshade. Those opting for the F Sport trim receive more heavily bolstered seats, an ergonomic leather-trimmed steering wheel, aluminum pedals, race-inspired instrumentation, and an optional exclusive Rioja Red leather interior.

Now standard across the GS lineup is the Lexus Safety System+, with a range of features to keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. This package includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, all-speed dynamic radar cruise control, intelligent high beams, and lane-departure warning with steering assist. GS Turbo owners receive one year of free access to Lexus Enform Safety Connect with roadside assistance, automatic emergency-notification services, and a GPS vehicle locator. Other safety features that come standard are 10 airbags, a reversing camera with dynamic gridlines for parking and tight maneuvers, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, hill-start assist, tire-pressure monitoring, Smart Stop technology, and LED headlamps and daytime running lights. The 2017 Lexus GS Turbo is available at a starting price of $46,310, while the GS Turbo F Sport starts at $53,980.
