2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WDReview

An Iconic Suv From The Most Respected American Auto Brand — The Grand Cherokee is one of the few vehicles in its class that I can enjoy driving. I drive a lot of vehicles, and very few cars feel like they have been properly sorted. It rides well, not too hard or soft, and the handling is responsive despite the off-road capabilities. The Grand Cherokee feels premium, the design is crisp and handsome, and the interior outfitting is also stylish, and in Limited trim and above, it's pretty luxurious. My Grand Cherokee is a 2013, which means the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 and 5-speed automatic transmission. It's a well-proven powertrain that doesn't cause me any worries as an owner, but the newer 8-speed ZF automatic transmission is smoother and may also boost the fuel economy. I wish the Grand Cherokee with the V6 returned better in-town fuel economy, but it'd be even thirstier with the Hemi. I also found that the standard Michelin Latitude Tour tires are not any good in the winter. The 4x4 system has little trouble getting you going, but turning and stopping, and not sliding off the road, are going to be dicey propositions without proper winter tires. I invested in a set of Blizzak DM-V1s and they're on the car from early December to late March, making it sure-footed when winter strikes. A couple of personal preference things: The Limited trim has a lot of polished/chrome trim. I kind of prefer the Laredo's more understated painted wheels and body-color mirror caps and door handles. On the other hand, the Limited is a pretty well-equipped trim level, coming with standard leather, navigation, and even a sunroof. I skipped the panorama roof because it's a lot of weight high up in the vehicle and it's a $1,500 single option. I was also surprised to see that the Grand Cherokee isn't factory undercoated. I've got to be extra -diligent to keep salt from eating it. Reliability has been good so far, I'm pushing 40,000 miles and don't have any complaints about breakdowns or erratic behavior. I love the Grand Cherokee, I get asked about it a lot and have recommended it a bunch. It's not for everyone - there are vehicles that offer more cargo room and efficiency in the same price range, but none are as enjoyable to drive as the Grand Cherokee. If I'm paying the monthly bill, I don't want to hate every minute behind the wheel. In that sense, I find the Grand Cherokee, which can be a little more pricey than your garden-variety Ford or Hyundai, totally worth it. Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Looks, brand cachet, comfort, features, ride and handling Cons: Fuel economy, high step-in, limited cargo space ![]() Looking for a Used Grand Cherokee in your area?CarGurus has 45,487 nationwide Grand Cherokee listings starting at $2,450. |

Awesome — I love everything about the car. From the interior setup, to the options, to the outside trim and look of the car. I absolutely love it and it's my third Grand Cherokee Limited and I'm sure there will be more in the future. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: It's bad ass, economical and a blast to drive. Cons: Sticker cost is high. |

Great Ride, Sporty, Fun, And Functional — The Jeep has come along way over the years but when they now say its the most awarded SUV on the road I know why. The styling is great, the chase and power train are solid, and the interior is like being in a european luxury car. No wonder its been call the american range rover. With advanced features like collision avoidance, blind spot alerting, and adaptive cruise control it is a dream for those long road trips. Ample power and adjustable air ride suspension makes it a blast to drive on road and off. Pros: Nice Looks, Great power and sound with the Hemi, comfortable ride, adaptive cruise control is amazing for road trips, very luxurious interior & stable in inclement weather. Cons: The fuel economy could be better but its a tradeoff for the power |

Solid Comfortable Transportation — I am leasing this car and very happy with low cost and reasonable cargo room and power. Not as happy with cloth interior but it is comfortable and I like the entry/exit ease and the ride is smooth. Handles well. I don't like the navigation interface and the Bluetooth is terrible at voice recognition. These last two issues are really not good and are inferior to other cars I have driven with similar features Pros: understated style - not too boxy but not too much useless sheet metal curves; good driving position and comfortable seats Cons: crappy voice recognition on the Bluetooth system |

Still An Suv — Wanted a SUV not a crossover. This one is smaller than the Tahoe but strill gives you the feel of an SUV when you have to get off the pavement. Mileage was a big deal since this is used for the daily commute into the city. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: fuel economy, comfort interior Cons: still new |

Awesome Rig! — I love this car. It's the first new car I've bought, and after doing about 9months of research I settled on this one. The interior is great. It's very comfortable and feels well made. I love (as do my passengers) the heated rear seats. The in dash media center is great as well. I've put about 8GBs of music on it, and it's as simple as putting in a CD or USB thumb drive, and hitting the "copy" button. No more lugging CDs around for me! I've had no problems in the month I've had it so far. I commute to work every day, about 20mins city and 20mins freeway, and at last fill up, I was getting 23.3 MPG. That's actually better MPG than my old 1996 Acura would get. Slapped some Goodyear Wrangler tires and MB TKO wheels and went up to the Cascade mountains. Handled like a dream. The traction control barely even had to kick in and when it did, I still felt completely in control. Couldn't be happier! UPDATE! My check engine light came on and it coded out as a simple emissions leak. I have an appointment to get it taken care of next week. UPDATE TO THE UPDATE! I think it was just a loose gas cap. I tightened it back on, and after a few days the CEL went out. I cancelled the appointment and everything is running fine. Still loving this rig! Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Looks great, better than expected MPG, handles well for an SUV Cons: Seems to lack a bit of power in the higher gears. Passing on the freeway isn't as easy as it could be |

2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD Review
MEGBRO says:
It has all the cargo space I need and the seating is very good for my large rear end. My only complaint might be the front seat center storage. Its sort of clunky and the top section is not very useful. I also think the rear end on mine lacks some stability as it moves to the right or left when hitting bumps at speed (highway). My old 2000 Jeep tank did not do this. vs2016 Jeep Compass Sport SE 4WD
