The Jetta is a great car...I have owned 3 of them...all diesels ..but have driven many other non diesel Jettas. They are a fantastic car. 2012 Models..should run between $4500-$7000 depending on miles/condition/model . Be aware that if it is Standard...the clutch may go out after 60,000 miles..depending on use...so definitely check the clutch...the AC Unit could be better..so check that out also..it is pricey to fix..another thing...People love to hit you car...door dings and etc...I parked so far away from everyone...all the time...Still managed to get door dings and bumper bumps. Sound of the radio is great with windows up...window down all the way is ok....but with it open an inch to 3 inches...not good....If you are a neat nick...get the floor mats, and mud flaps...car kicks up a great deal of dirt in the back. I averaged 45+ mpg in my 2002 (80000 miles, clutch issues at 60K), 43 mpgs in my 2006(130000 miles, AC issues at 100K), and 42 mpgs in my 2015 (85,000 miles, AC issues (small ones) after 6 months...everytime I had it checked...it was fine... Overall.. very comfortable for front seat, and rear seat small people...I now have a PASSAT...very nice also. ![]() Looking for a Used Jetta in your area?CarGurus has 10,305 nationwide Jetta listings starting at $1,900. |

2012 Vw Jetta — Amazing car! Fun to drive around for daily commutes and even better for long road trips with good friends. I have driven this car through the best and worst weather conditions and it has kept powering though and making memorable moments Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Fun car to drive around Cons: maintenance can be pricey |

Decent Day To Day Car — nice economy car and decent gas mileage. No extra stuff except leather and automatic transmission. handles ok. gets the job done, affordable payments, and very low maintenance expense. looking to keep the car for a few years, and other jetta owners have said that they last Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: gas mileage Cons: power |

Better Than I Could Have Ever Imagined! — I would definitely recommend this car to everyone and anyone asking! We love it!! Not only does it have incredible fuel economy, but the reliability as well as drivability of this vehicle is incredible. We have had no issues to speak of and we drive the vehicle a ton!! Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: This is a super fun car to drive, with great reliability and descent capacity! Cons: We have just over 50k miles on it and haven't had any issues to speak of... |

I'm Trading To A Diesel Beetle Ragtop So I'm Sad To See It Go! — So your car takes premium and gets 35 mpg? Diesel costs the same or less than premium and this car gets twice the mileage, meaning you use 50-60% of the fuel costs. I'm a long distance commuter, and I cut my transportation cost in half. I love this car. I drove it from Delaware to NY thru the NJ turnpike in a blizzard, and I was the only car on the road. There was nobody to take my tolls on the north end of the turnpike, it was closed with a foot of compact snow on it, and this car kept on going past the truckers and the SUVs that were flipped over and on their sides. Plus, it looks AWESOME. It's my commuter car and I drive on flat highway 70 from Frederick MD to Baltimore MD every day. I babied it. Some days, I'd go 55 mph and get nearly 60mpg. That's not a typo. I'd get better than 55 miles per gallon. Most of the time, it gets 48 on the highway every day. It's pretty good around town too. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: It's a turbo diesel, with a ton of power. It uses the horsepower efficiently, and when I'm going 75 on the highway, and need to pass, I drop it into 5th and it will rocket past anything. It looks great, and it's got a huge trunk. Optional roof rack. Cons: The center console is a little dirty and the left mirror has a small scratch on the exterior. It does not affect vision or safety. |

Decent — Bought a used car from a dealer with $15000. It's a decent car. The suspension sucks. The look is great. Anything else is normal. The trunk is very spacious. All in all, it's a very decent car with this level of price. Pros: look and trunk Cons: suspension |

I — It probably has a little more road noise than the other luxury car I own but quieter than my 2010 pickup which is a crew cab. I don't do a lot of driving, my local town is 15 miles away. I go the the Twin Cities 2x per month and drive the VW half the time, the 2012 Volvo the other half the time. I don't drive the pickup very often, it is my transportation to the dump, going fishing or picking up building materials. Pros: This CAR is AWESOME in performance as it is VERY FAST and still delivers 32mpg on the highway Cons: 32 MPG - a TDI does over 40 MPG |

Good Commuter Car — I've always liked Jetta's, but this generation is slightly different than previous ones. In one side the price point is not bad, plus it comes with 3 years worth of maintenance (we like this). On the other side, one can feel and see where VW had to cut cost in order to price their cars below the competition. Irregardless of the cost cutting efforts, they still managed to create a great value and great product. Pros: The color is different and the handling is not to shabby Cons: The cabin has a bit of a plastic feeling (they had to cut cost somewhere) |

Rented A 2.5se For A Week - Really Liked It — I recently went on a west coast trip to San Francisco. Enterprise had me down for a Standard size car but after I declined the Chevy HHR, the attendant laughed and gave us a Jetta. To my surprise it wasn't the base model and was the upgraded engine (2.5SE). At first, I hated it. The interior was cheap / 90's looking and the engine felt gutless. The next day, I get to into the car with friends and I decided to try Sport (S) mode. After all, what's the worst that could happen? Well, it turns out that Sport mode transforms the car. The car finally gets out of it's own way and holds second gear up the steep San Francisco hills. My friends and I joked about how much quicker the car is in sport mode by saying "I'm sorry ociffer, but SPORT MODE!". The 5 cylinder engine has a unique growl around 3.5k RPMs which continues until it gets a little raspy at 5k. After that little 10 mile trip, the Jetta had grown on me. The next day I ended up deciding to see what Muir Woods is all about (it's a national monument with lots of redwood trees). That trip took me down some of the coolest and twistiest roads in our fair country. We're talking roads with unregulated speed limit and 10mph corners. This is where I decided to see how the car fared in manual mode - as the automatic can be manually shifted. Most of the time I spent in 2nd gear with the occasion shift up to 3rd on a straight on down to first in one or two insanely tight hairpins. The car won't really let you do much damage to the transmission. It will automatically shift up if you redline it but odds are, the wail of the engine will alert you to that first. The shifts are as quick and precise as anything within several thousand dollars (to my knowledge) and anyone cross shopping this car with an Optima/Sonato turbo (which my father owns and I've driven frequently) should go with the Jetta if this feature is the deal breaker. After Muir woods, I headed up SR1 (also called Highway 1) for even more twisty-turny action. Here I could open the car up a bit. The German roots came out as the car was just as responsive and communicative as it was quiet and supple for city driving. The car does oversteer at the limit (duh, it's front wheel drive), but you have to try real hard to get it out of sorts. The traction control is "stuck on" and never turns off. It lets you spin the wheels a bit and get you jollies but thankfully, at least on SR1, keeps you from spirited-driving-yourself off the 40 story high ocean cliffs. Strangely enough, I didn't really desire more power. The car has about 170hp but pulls very strong - much better than my own four-banger Scion tC. There were Maserati's, Porsches, Infiniti's, BMW's, Lexus's and every other sport luxury car out there on SR1 with me but the curves are the big limiter. I was just as content in the Jetta as I would have been in a Porsche Boxster - and I never broke 40mph. I'm not saying I wouldn't rather own a Porsche, but if I had to settle for something German, great in the twisties, supple around town, and roomy for friends - I think this is it. I came back the way I came but decided to go back to Sport mode. Having adventured into manual land and having gotten a great feel for the gears, I was interested in seeing how it handled things on it's own. I was really disappointed by sport mode but in a move to save fuel, it's not quiet as sporty as I would have hoped. The car seemed to downshift very quickly when I stepped on it, but shifted back up a bit too soon - leaving me in the wrong gear to enter - and subsequently exit the next corner. Having said that, it still good fun. All in all, I'd recommend anyone check out the Jetta (at the very least the 2.5 engine or the GLI - which I now intend to test drive). The overall driving feel of the car, quietness around town, and great transmission make it fantastic bargain for a car despite despite the cheap albeit well-laid-out interior. * As a side note, I know many auto enthusiast types (which I count myself in), LOVE a proper manual gearbox. At no point, in or around San Francisco, did I find myself missing a clutch. If anything, all I wanted was some flappy paddles on the steering wheel - which I believe come in the GLI. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
Pros:
Shiftable automatic transmission
Cons:
Interior looks dated for a new car |
