2012 Maybach 62 Landaulet Overview
The 2013 Maybach 62 Landaulet limousine will turn heads everywhere. This hand-built vehicle features a rear roof that opens fully to allow passengers to enjoy open air and clear blue sky while the chauffeur compartment remains closed. The Maybach 62 Landaulet bases its design on the landaulets of the 1920s and '30s, and since its debut in 2008, remains unchanged. The luxury of the Maybach 62 Landaulet is unsurpassed and can satisfy even the most exquisite tastes. From its elegant exterior finish to its well-appointed leather interior, the Maybach 62 Landaulet is truly one of a kind.
Under the hood of the Maybach 62 Landaulet, you will find an engine as powerful as the statement the vehicle makes. The Maybach 62 Landaulet features a 6.0-liter, V12, bi-turbo engine that delivers 620 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. Top speed for the Maybach 62 Landaulet is 155 mph, and it will accelerate from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. With a vehicle weight of over 7,000 pounds, the numbers produced by the enormous motor are impressive. What is not impressive is its fuel economy, which is an estimated 10 mpg city/16 highway. Despite being not so fuel efficient, the Maybach 62 Landaulet can claim its rights to being the world’s most powerful series-produced chauffeured vehicle of its kind.
The incredible power of the Maybach 62 Landaulet creates the need for specially adapted Electronic Stability Control, ASR skid control and an enhanced braking system. For a luxuriously smooth ride, the Maybach 62 Landaulet has a sensitive Airmatic Dual Control air suspension. This coupled with an automatic leveling system and a 15mm height reduction makes for an incredibly smooth ride for both the driver and passengers. Thicker front stabilizers and a re-programmed Airmatic DC suspension provide for sporty handling. Combine this with the 275/45/20 tires mounted on 11-spoke rims and you have the ultimate package for ride and handling. There is virtually no road noise, as the engine design allows it to be whisper quiet, thicker glass is standard and engineers have added insulation to any points where noise might enter. The electrohydraulic Sensotronic Brake Control provides the braking for the Maybach 62 Landaulet. There are two central control units in the system that are able to control brake pressure on each individual wheel, responding to every braking situation. It works in conjunction with the ABS system to keep the vehicle straight and safe and make braking smoother in case of a sudden stop.
The interior of the Maybach 62 Landaulet resembles more of an expensively furnished living area then the back of a limousine. Both the front and rear of the Maybach 62 Landaulet have heated and cooled seats with shoulder belts that automatically adjust to the height of the occupant. All seats feature multicontour backs and lumbar support, all wrapped in Grand Nappa leather. There are 2 different interior accent colors to choose from, piano black and granite. All seats are electronically adjustable, with the back seats featuring extending and reclining features as well. The Maybach 62 Landaulet offers 2 rear seats standard with an option for 3 seats available. The rear seats also feature removable pillows for head restraint. For shade and privacy, the rear windows also feature electric curtains controllable from any seat in the vehicle.
The feature that makes the Maybach 62 Landaulet unique is the retractable rear roof. The Maybach 62 Landaulet’s soft-top is wind and weatherproof when closed, and rests on the roof bows. The roof can be opened electro-hydraulically by the chauffeur at the touch of a button, taking 16 seconds to fully open. Once the folded roof is open, it has a leather cover that conceals the mechanism and adds to the flow of the bodylines. When the roof is completely open, the sidewalls remain. This gives the passengers a complete view of not only the blue sky, but also all around, with the safety of side glass. For added personal comfort in any seat, the Maybach 62 Landaulet has two climate control systems, one for front seat passengers and another for the rear, as well as separate controls for each passenger. As these vehicles are limousines, the back doors are longer and open wider to allow for ease getting in and out of the vehicle. To close these larger doors, standard on the Maybach 62 Landaulet are electronic rear door closers that fully close the door from any open position with the touch of a button. The Maybach 62 Landaulet also features a fully power retractable glass partition, offering privacy at the touch of a button from the front or rear of the vehicle. The partition also includes an electric curtain for even more privacy for the rear seat passengers. To keep in communication with the driver when the partition is in use, there is also a front/rear intercom system.
The Maybach 62 Landaulet also features a state-of-the-art multimedia system. The system includes a DVD player, 6-CD changer, Bluetooth capability and jacks for auxiliary inputs as well as dual 9.5-inch video screens, with an optional 19-inch screen. This all comes to life with a 21-speaker 600-watt Surround Sound system. Like any other option of the Maybach 62 Landaulet, the buyer can customize the system to his or her own wants and needs. A thermostatically controlled rear refrigerator for food or beverages sits under the center console, with two hand-polished .925 sterling silver champagne flutes to enjoy those beverages.
To go along with all the luxury appointments in the Maybach 62 Landaulet, it also has an impressive list of safety features. From the road-sensing intelligent bi-xenon headlamps to the rear-view camera, every part in between features the best in safety features. The Maybach 62 Landaulet is equipped with a Parktronic system that senses nearby obstacles at parking speed and alerts the driver to where they are with illuminated and audible signals on the dash and rear cabin ceiling. The front airbag system has a two-stage, situation-dependent triggering system. All four seats feature side airbags plus separate curtain airbags. The Maybach 62 Landaulet is also equipped with a Distronic system that monitors other vehicles in front of it and not only alerts the driver if they are too close, but applies the brakes as well.
The Maybach 62 Landaulet is a hand-built vehicle of very limited production. The elite few that own a Maybach 62 Landaulet are in most cases as exclusive as the vehicle itself. Owners of the Maybach 62 Landaulet simply want to be one of only a few people in the world to own a piece of automotive history.
