Work In Progress — I bought the 09 Jetta because my 97 Jetta broke down, it was a sad yet happy day. The performance is decent but can always use more horsepower and torque. Build quality is good as expected from VW. Interior and exterior are nice but in need of upgrades like leather and suede in the interior and atleast blackout of the chrome piece in front if not a full body kit. Cost of ownership is low at the moment with great gas mileage and only needing oil changes every 10,000 miles which come in handy because i drove almost 5,000 miles in the first month of owning it. The car is lots of fun and the 5 cylinder engine is a great conversation starter

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: It's a VDUB, so you know it's amazing!

Cons: Cost if it ever needs repair

Solid Performing Car, Built Well, But Needs More Driver Interior Space. —

Owned for about 1.5 yrs. Avg. 27 miles per gallon. Has 18,000 miles. Ride is pretty good and solid, but firm, almoast to the point where its too firm. I guess a trade off for the great handling. My biggest gripes are the interior design- The size of the console- too wide- intrudes on leg room, seats are narrow, and drivers door controls could be better placed. The seat adjustment is not so good either, to get the bottom seat cushion level I need to pump up the seat to the point my head is hitting the roof. Wish it was electric hieght adjustment like other cars. The 2.0 turbo engine is sweet, the DSG is good once your moving. from a start it lags, and feels weird when coming to a stop. The sport mode holds shifts too long, requiring backing off of the gas to let it shift. Paddle shifters would have been a nice addition. I had 4 VWs before this all sticks. I wish I would have gotten the Jetta in a stick as well. I did take it for a run down the 1/4 mile a few times. My best time so far is 14.8 @ 94 MPH. That's on a full tank of gas, and just punching the gas, not using the launch control. No mods- car is bone stock. Had a noise in the front end, dealer replaced strut bearings and springs. Appaerently there were factory quality issues w/ the front springs. Other than that the car has performed flawlessy. I see on the 11 model golf/GTI the console is smaller, and the door controls are situated better. I guess this was a common gripe w/ other owners too.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Performance, handling, gas mileage quality.

Cons: wide console, narrow seats, poor driver door control placement

Test Drive Any 2009 On The Highway Before You Buy - The Noise Will Make You Rethink The Value. — This is our 4th Jetta TDi. It was one of the best cars for the price and fuel mileage is excellent. The '09 has the new diesel engine which finally gave it the HP it needed. The complaint nearly every 2009 owner has - excessively high wind noise at the A-Pillars. VW does NOT want to fix it since most the 2009 do it - so it is by design. Do a Google search and you we see the high level of complaints on the 2009. Wrote to VW and the answer was "do bad so sad..." They should learn their lesson from Toyota!

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Fun car and great fuel mileage

Cons: Wind noise will drive you nuts

Mileage 8) — Great gas mileage at 40 plus miles to the gallon, but yet really fun to drive. It is built like a sports sedan and the turbo gives it plenty of passing power on the two laners we drive everyday. The ability to switch to a manual transmission through the use of the DSG is a blast and a great safety feature on icey roads.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Mileage and fun to drive.

Cons: Nothing

Me And My Jetta — This is the Amazing Compact car I ever owned, Much better than Hondas & Toyotas. There is no comparison when it comes to Long rides. Silent cabin is best in the car. Boot space is better than Camry. My Babies love my car.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Safety, Mileage, Comfort, Spacious, Sound System, Moon Roof, Air Conditions and Durability

Cons: Nothing

I Am Very Impressed With The Design And Soundness Of Construction. — I like the precise handling and braking. The suspension is a good balance of comfort and sportiness. The manual transmission and clutch operate with precision. I got the cheapest model available and it still has all the power features, terrific 8-speaker stereo, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, stability control, traction control, electronic differential lock and heated seats. Plus, it has front seat and side curtain air-bags. I don't understand some reviewers complaining about expensive service, the maintenance is pre-paid for the first 36,000 miles! Yes, it takes more than 6-quarts of expensive synthetic oil; but for anyone wanting to take care of their car, that's a good thing. The standard 2.5L engine has 170-hp, way more than anything in its size/price category. Because of the standard safety features and anti-theft device, insurance is cheaper than my Honda!

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Precise handling and brakes, power and features

Cons: None

Very Fast — 5 cyl 2.5 L can do 0-60 in a very low time.. hasn't broken down yet, but it is a new car with less than 3k miles on it. very fast. Everything is automatic including blutooth. Transmission goes in all the regular auto selections plus a semi-auto mode plus a sport gear. very nice car.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Very fast and fuel efficient

Cons: 4 doors

I Love This Car... — This car is an elegant well built German car, it handles like it is on rails. However, the 1.9 tdi engine does not do it justice. It has good torque through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears but lacks that exrta bit of power when you need it. The ride quality is impeccable and it is extremely roomy. This car's party piece is the huge boot which could easily carry up to 7 dead bodies... Overall, it is the best car I have ever driven and would highly recommend it...

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Nice to drive, well built

Cons: Top speed not up to scratch
