2009 Dodge Journey Trims and Specs

The 2009 Dodge Journey SE serves as the base trim for this model line. The SE has the line’s least powerful drivetrain – a 2.4-liter four-cylinder mated to a four-speed automatic – but it does get the best gas mileage at 19/25 mpg. The SE’s performance and safety are enhanced with an electronic stability program and traction control.

Interior features for the SE include air conditioning, cloth seats with a height adjuster for the driver, rear reclining and fold-flat seats, power locks and windows with driver express, second-row in-floor storage bins, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, illuminated cupholders, tinted windshield, liftgate floodlamp, SentryKey theft-deterrent system, tire pressure monitor, and a six-speaker AM/FM stereo with in-dash 6-CD changer. Exterior features include heated black mirrors, body-color door handles and fascias, Solar Control glass, black sills, rear window washer/wiper, and 16-inch steel wheels with P225/70R16 all-season tires.

The 2009 Dodge Journey SXT is one step up from the base SE and makes a serious leap in power with its 3.5-liter, high-output V6 paired with a six-speed automatic that gets 16 city/23 highway mpg. The SXT’s performance is also upgraded with a touring suspension and speed control.

The SXT adds to the SE’s interior features with stain-repellent cloth seats, a 6-way power driver’s seat with manual lumbar support, fold-flat passenger seat, a trip computer with temperature and compass displays, supplemental side curtain airbags for all rows, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a portable and rechargeable trouble light, security alarm, illuminated entry, interior observation mirror, cargo net, grocery-bag hooks, and Sirius satellite radio. Exterior additions include dual bright exhaust tips, Sunscreen glass, keyless entry, body-color mirrors, and 17-inch aluminum wheels with P225/65R17 all-season touring tires.

The 2009 Dodge Journey SXT AWD adds a little more than just Dodge’s AWD system to the front-wheel-drive SXT trim. The SXT AWD has improved handling with performance steering and a performance suspension, the fuel-tank size increases by about a gallon to 21.1, and the exterior adds foglamps and 19-inch aluminum wheels with 225/55R19 all-season touring tires. The drivetrain remains the same: a 3.5-liter V6 and a six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic AWD system obviously improves handling in difficult or off-road conditions, but it also lowers gas mileage to 15 city/22 highway mpg.

At the top of the Journey model line is the 2009 Dodge Journey R/T trim. It shares a drivetrain with the SXT – a 3.5-liter, high-output V6 with a six-speed automatic that gets 16 city/23 highway mpg – and adds performance steering and suspension. The interior upgrades for the R/T feature dual-zone air conditioning, heated and leather-trimmed front seats, premium instrument cluster with a bright metal finish, aimable front and rear LED lights, and a leather-wrapped shiftknob and steering wheel, which also has audio controls. The exterior upgrades include body-color sills, door handles, and side roof rails, remote start, and 19-inch aluminum wheels with 225/55R19 all-season touring tires.

The 2009 Dodge Journey R/T AWD shares all the drivetrain, exterior, and interior features of the front-wheel-drive R/T and simply adds Dodge’s automatic AWD system. (This is in contrast to the SXT AWD, which does add a few other features to the SXT FWD trim.) The AWD system moves power and traction to the rear wheels as needed, the automation reducing the need for driver input (and thus driver distraction) and also increasing fuel efficiency. Still, the R/T AWD does get slightly lower mileage, coming in at 15 city/22 highway mpg.
