Excellent — My third Passat. Others...2001...2004 and now 2008..This one is the best.. From the heated front seats to the improved power band given by the 2.0 litre engine. I went with the 6 speed auto. New color...Moca brown... almost black.. So the base turbo model... is just about the perfect sedan...abs... stability control... airbags...all I need now are my trusted dunlop m3 tires..Thanks VW and to Palisades VW, NY.

Pros: all safety features... good power band on 2.0 litre engine

Cons: trunk struts position should return to being on the outside  aka ..2004 model..why can't we have YELLOW/amber turn signal bulbs on rear lights, like they were in 2004 model.

My New Passat Sw — I enjoy the interior and the styling. I enjoy the drive however it feels at high speed that the CV joint is not right. I am working with the dealer to figure it out...

Nice Power Band, Smooth Shifting, And Quality Inside And Out — This is my 3rd Passat and 3rd generation Passat, I have loved everyone. Of course this one is the best and I say that everytime. I have driven the BMW 330xi for compairson the BMW seems to have slightly more power, however it seems like the Passat has more room. The Passat wins for quality and price you really get what you pay for in this car. I know it is more expensive than the Honda Accord, however it just out classes it.

Honey, Please Let Me Drive Your Car. —

My wife called me from the Volkswagon dealership to inform me that she was purchasing a new 2008 Passat, 2.0L Turbo. I had read about them and even suggested she look at one, so I was cool with that. I had no idea how cool car this is. I liked it from the minute I first saw it. It is smartly styled and a bit of chrome to add some punch. The Goodyears keep it planted and the tailights look expensive, which is what most vehicles will be looking at, as you pass them. The more I explored it, the more I liked it. The shift paddles and 6 speed tip-tronic transmission are the bomb. It takes full advantage of the 200hp under the hood. It is more fun to drive than the 2002MY Accord she traded in. After sunset you are delighted to a beautifully illuminated instrument cluster. If it weren't for the sunroof, I would only drive at night. There are enough storage compartments to get a squirrel through winter. Dial back the sunroof, pull up the window shades and play with the package containment system in the trunk and you will quickly realize that this vehicle was thought out well in advance and executely perfectly. When my wife went shopping for a new car that morning, I was fairly certain she would return with a new Accord. The fact is that she walked out of the Honda, Toyota and Pontiac dealerships before landing at VW. I am glad she did. I could not have picked out a better car myself. Check it out.

A Fun And Sylish Vehicle To Drive —

Overall, this is more than adequate for my needs and makes the daily commute fun. It's a blast to drive on the highway and at night because of both external and internal lights. If I remember, I'll update this as my use increases and issues are encountered. Pros: User Interface: It looks great on the inside and out and has a lot of nice features which add both fun and functionality. The inside illuminates well at night and the displays are very readable. The owner's manual is pretty detailed but easy to follow, and walks you through the many useful features such as: remembering up to three driver settings that are keyed to the remote, lighting timing adjustments, lots of storage, etc. The controls are easy to use and are probably more than the average driver would make use of. Handling: It accelerates very nicely to the point you won't even feel like you're going as fast as you are so you'll have to watch your speedometer closer than normally. Braking was a little touchy at first but easy to adapt to. It's also extremely comfortable to drive in and has good leg/head space in the back, at least if you're 6' tall or shorter. It hugs the road very nicely and is very responsive to driver input. Sound: The sound system is great and I find myself having to turn down the volume most of the time, and the steering wheel controls are both convenient and safer to use than reaching down to adjust the cd manually. Cons: Handling: It can feel heavy when making turns and taking corners and can feel sluggish at low (apartment complex) speeds. Safety: Checking over your shoulder or through the rear window is hindered by the seats and it's difficult to set the side mirrors as far out to the side of the vehicle while keeping them parallel to the ground to give blind spot clearance. Interior Cleaning (speculative): I suspect that given the leather interior it would not be ideal for families with little kids as spills are bound to happen.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: It's a nice combination of style, comfort, and user-friendly that makes driving fun.

Cons: Fuel cost:
I've only had it for a few days but premium gas is recommended and can be costly. I put in $25 bucks at slightly less than 1/4 tank and only got up to a little  less than 3/4. I'm guessing a full tank fill up would cost upwards of $50. Time to renew that Costco membership.

Awesome And Clean — I bought this car after having a 5 series BMW, and I have to say I was pretty impressed with how it drove and how comfortable it was. I was of course nervous it would be a nori bile downgrade, but it really wasn't. The car was originally for just me and my at the time 3 year old son, it worked for us until we expanded our family by two. This passat will definitely be missed if we get lucky enough to get it sold.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great reliable good looking car!

Cons: Not big enough for a family if 4, with two car seats.

Sporty, Fun To Drive Family Car, Solid German Engineering —

We bought the 2008 Lux Waggon, which is a 4 cylinder, 2.0L Turbo engine with 6 speed tiptronic transmission, Front wheel drive with 18" alloy wheels. The Car is sporty, handles and accellerates well, yet gets good fuel economy on Premium (91 octane minumum required). The VW Passat is essentially the Audi A4 on a stretched fame, but without the added cost. The features of the vehicle leave nothing to be desired, yet do not overwhelm the senses and tend to melt into the background allowing you to focus on the road. I am not a professional or trained mechanic, but I have found I am capable of doing most of my owe vehicle maintenance if I have the right set of tools and instructions. I was dissapointed when I bought the VW and found out that the manufacturer did not produce a maintenance manual available to the public. I believe aftermarket publications are now available, but I don't appreciate the manufacurer trying to corner the market on maintenance. The oil change intervals are 10k miles I believe and require synthetic lubricants only, but typically I only use synthetics in all my engines and vehicles now. Synthetics lubricants are much more affordable when you buy the non-brand names and perform the labor yourself.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Fun to Drive, Sporty, Great Fuel Economy, Turbo Power, Superb Handling, Long maintenance intervals, Intuitive electronics and features melt away improving the driving experience.

Cons: Premium Fuel, not DIY Maintenance friendly (cannot purchase shop manual from VW)
