This entry-level Sequoia houses an older power plant than the mid- and upper-level trims: a 4.7-liter V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. This V8 produces 276 horsepower and 314 ft-lbs of torque, and fuel economy is a bit less efficient than the larger engine's, at 14/17 mpg. However, the newer 5.7-liter V8 is available as an option.

This considerable power increase is complemented by an upgrade from a 5- to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 5.7-liter mill also benefits from Toyota's Dual Variable Valve Timing Technology, which increases power output, lowers emissions, and improves fuel efficiency. As a result this larger engine actually achieves better fuel economy than the more modest 4.7-liter engine and earns estimates of 14/19 mpg, verses 14/17. The 5.7 liter-equipped Sequoia can tow up to 10,000 pounds.
SR5 is an entry-level trim for Toyota trucks and SUVs, but the full-size Sequoia comes equipped with a comprehensive list of standard features. This trim gets triple-zone automatic climate control, a CD sound system, a 40/20/40 second-row bench seat, an auxiliary audio jack, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and full power accessories. Buyers may also add leather upholstery, a JBL sound system, and a navigation system.

The 4.7-liter V8 comes standard on the SR5, making 276 horsepower and 314 ft-lbs of torque, with power routed to the four wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. With the smaller engine, the Sequoia can tow up to 7,800 pounds, and fuel economy is estimated at 13/16 mpg. This is the lowest mileage of any Sequoia trim, due to the addition of 4WD and the absence of Dual Variable Valve Timing on the 4.7. Toyota's newer 5.7-liter V8 is available as an option on this trim, offering small improvements in efficiency and a substantial increase in power.
Standard features include a 40/20/40 second-row bench seat, triple-zone automatic climate control, a CD sound system, an auxiliary audio jack, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel and full power accessories. Toyota's 5.7-liter V8 is enhanced by the newer Dual Variable Valve Timing technology and generates 381 horsepower and 401 ft-lbs of torque.
