2008 Scion xBReview

Great Car — This is the first new car I have ever had and I absolutly love it. It is small like a car but sized like a smaller suv. It gets good on gas and is a great car for our family. I have looked at these cars for a couple years now and was so excited to finally get one. Not to mention my very tall husband can actually fit in the car without hitting his head or knees...lol. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing ![]() Looking for a Used xB in your area?CarGurus has 605 nationwide xB listings starting at $3,495. |

To Not Underestimate The Box. — Performance is greater than expected. Put the car into manual mode and take off the traction control and you got a rocket. The normal person will get about 24/25 in town, and 25/26 highway; less if you speed. The fun factor is a 10/10 if you've been in my vehicle in the past. The apperance it looks smaller in the inside but it easily fits a 6' 8 person with room to spare. The built quality is high up because it is owned by Toyota. Pros: Great point A to B car that does not let you down in any situation. Cons: My tire life is already halfway gone and im at 15,000. Too soft of a tread. Goodyear Eagles = high performanc tires |

Great Platform For Modification — My 2nd Scion xB, one of the best cars to modify and retain its value. My last xB was the only car ever that I have owned that actually appreciated in value and I made a little money on it. Very dependable, lots of room even for someone who is 6'3 and 300lbs. Love it Pros: Roomy, fun to drive, economical, easy to park, dependable Cons: Slow acceleration, cheap plastic parts on the inside |

Box On Wheels — Although not as boxy as the first generation Scion xB (Or Toyota bB in Japan), the second generation xB (Based on the JDM Corolla Rumion) is larger and more powerful. The 2.4L engine gives the new xB a lot more power over the 1.5L equipped first generation xB, at the expense of slightly worse fuel economy (31 vs 36 MPG), but the extra horsepower is worth it, especially on models equipped with an automatic transmission. Head and foot room is plentiful, even in the back seat. Pros: Stereo, interior room, fuel economy Cons: Rear cargo area not all that big, but the rear seats fold down for hauling larger items, sun visors don't slide rearward when flipped to the side, don't block the sun very well from the side |

Fantastic Price/value. Well Built With All You Would Expect And More. — It is no Lexux but it is a Toyota. All the safety features you may want. Good power/economy ratio. It is not a 4.3 V8 but a 2.4 4L. It would be nice if it had a 5 or 6 spd automatic but the 4 auto stick is adequate. For the price you can't beat it and did I say it is a Toyota. Pros: Air bags all around, safety beams on the doors, anti lock breaks, 2.4 liter engine, auto stick, nice radio which accepts wma files. Uses unleaded fuel. Cons: Noisy cabin at cruising speeds. |

Beating People With A Box Is Fun — the car is very smooth, has somewhat of a different look that people find ugly. It is not what other people like anyways. You buy the car for your personalization. Pros: performance faster than the fit. Sound system Cons: a-pillar creek that will be fixed this summer |

Comparison Between 06 And 08 — I own an 06 xB which i love to death. I wouldn't trade it for the world because i made it my own by customizing it the way i want it. But i drove an 08 xB this past summer at a couple of scion backstage events and it was just awesome to be able to feel the difference between the two. I was able to test the power and handling in one track and i just couldn't have been happier with both. It was nice to have more power in my hands because the 06 models only have 103 hp. If there was one reason that would keep me from getting an 08 though, it would be because it's not boxy enough. xB's are known for their shape and the 08 model just lost a lot of it in my mind. But overall i just love the 08 and would recommend it to someone thinking about getting a scion. Pros: standard cruise control, more power, even better handling Cons: lost boxy shape a bit |

The Box Gets Better — I just drove the new xB an hour ago. It is surprisingly spacious in the front AND back seats (I am a little more than 6 feet and I fit very comfortably in front as well as the back), it's deceptively small from the outside. The seats are comfortable and the power seemed to be adequate (I didn't really get the chance to test it though) and the car handled very well. The dash seemed a little boxy but in a car that has been designed to look like a box thats not a shocker. The dash materials did feel a little plasticky and unrefined, but hey, it's a Scion and at an MSRP of around $17,000 you couldn't ask for much more than that. I'm very surprised with my reaction to the Box. I would never has billed myself as a person who would actually consider one of these, but after driving one I am left wanting more of it. I'll definitely consider one when buying my next car. Pros: Edgy looks, incredibly spacious, easily customizable, more horsepower, interior is extremely quiet. Cons: Fuel economy given up for the better power, rims should be standard on such a "hip" vehicle. |
